Manchester United edge Tottenham 1-0 at Old Trafford

Manchester United secured a narrow victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Red Devils came out top of the encounter that was even for most of the game all thanks to the goal by the substitute, Anthony Martial. The French star came on and score the deciding goal in the game.

The game looked like one which was destined to be a draw before Martial changed the whole script.

Tottenham was doing everything right to secure at least a point at Old Trafford but due to defensive lapses, Romelu Lukaku was freed and he had the opportunity of crossing to Martial who converted from close range in the 81st minute.

Before the goal, Spurs were saved by the goal post when Lukaku header hit the woodwork. It was Dele Alli’s miss from close range that was the most disappointing miss of the game. The England man made the absence of top scorer, Harry Kane obvious as he missed that goal which Kane will most likely not be missing from that position.

The win means United will keep a tab on city rivals, City at the top of the table. It was a delightful one for Jose Mourinho as this is his team’s first win in three matches after the Liverpool draw and shocking defeat to Huddersfield.

Tottenham meanwhile will have to wait another time before they get their next win at Old Trafford, a venue they have lost 21 times in the last 26 visits in the premier league. This win also means United have bow kept five straight clean sheets in the league at home, the last time they did that was in the 2007/08 campaign.

The Champions league comes during the week and United will host Benfica before traveling to London to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Spurs have a crunchy tie with Real Madrid before they face Crystal Palace next Sunday.
