Meet Neymar’s sister Rafaella Santos

Paris Saint Germain forward, Neymar Jr is known for his explosive lifestyle and has never shied away from it as he enjoys his off football moments in ways that are best understood by him. The Brazilian has however had the habit of not missing his sister’s birthday despite falling during the crucial part of the season.

There is a close bond between Neymar’s sister and him, Rafaella that could be the reason for his presence at all her birthday but it’s funny this occurs in a weird way. Neymar is always injured when it gets close to his sister’s birthday and will be out for his club which will allow him to travel and be present at her birthday party. This is a trend that dates back to 2015 during his days at Barcelona.

Rafaella was born on the 11th of March 1996 and this period happens to be during the knockout stage of the Champions League and also when the domestic leagues get tougher especially in Spain.

It is the month that either Barcelona or Real Madrid will lose grip on the title and will give the other room to go ahead so it is a period to have your best players available on the pitch to help improve the squad. Neymar has however been injured or suspended on March 11 for some years now.

It is known that as siblings, there will be a special bond between them and it goes as far as the PSG star having to tattoo her face on his arm just to show how much he loved his sister. Neymar is a family man that doesn’t hide his feelings about the bond between him and his family member.

The 24-year-old is also a very successful model in her right and can comfortably stand by her successful career without having to lean on her brother for anything. For someone that has over 5.6 million followers on Instagram alone shows how successful she has been as a model. Not too many people in the world can boast of such followership on social media.

Neymar’s sister has built a brand for herself around social media that is sustainable. Many have claimed it was easier for her to rise in her career as a model because she has one of the most successful athletes currently in the game as her brother.

This can partly be true but she is also putting in the work for her to remain at that top for a long time and no matter how influential your brother can be when someone is not good enough for the job, the world will find out one way or the other and displace such person.

The closeness between the siblings is beyond just attending each other’s birthday party. Rafaella has created time to be active at the charity institute founded by her brother.

The charity was formed in 2014 while he was still in Barcelona which main aim has been to support children from disadvantaged areas close to where both stars were brought up. Children who live around Praia Grande or Sao Paulo can easily benefit from the charity.

One interesting thing about Neymar’s sister is her choice of surname. She was formally bearing Da Silva Santos but changed it to Beckran when she was of age to do so. The name is a close replica of former England star, David Beckham. A media outlet in Brazil, Globo, reported that she chooses the name because of the English star who has been her idol since she was a child.

She is also a very popular person amongst footballers in their home country Brazil as she once dated Brazilian striker, Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa who then played for Inter Milan. The pair went their separate ways in 2018.

What is the curse of Neymar’s sister’s birthday?

The story about Neymar missing games when it gets close to his sister’s birthday sounds weird but happens to be true. It is a form of bad luck that has been following the star right from his time at Barcelona.

Maybe it is a way for the star to be available for his sister’s birthday or it’s a mere coincident but the level of its repetitiveness has given fans something to think about.

In 2020, the Brazil captain missed a game for the fifth consecutive season around the time of her birthday. 2019 cam and he was injured for the most part of the second half of the season which affected PSG Champions League campaign massively and made them lose out to Manchester United in the knockout stage. The same thing occurred in 2020 March as he was out due to a rib injury.

This pattern has been noticed not just by the fans of his clubs but also by opposition players. There was a time Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos made a joke out of it by claiming he would love to play alongside Neymar but will have to negotiate is sister’s birthday.

It all started with a set of suspension that made him miss games on this day and he will seek permission to travel to his home country. While he was in Barcelona, he got booked in a game against Granada which was his fifth of the season which means he will miss the game against Rayo Vallecano on March 8.

He got permission to travel and he was granted. The following year, he was also suspended as he was booked in a game against Rayo Vallecano on the 3rd of March. It was his fifth of the season and had to miss the next match against Eibar on March 6th and traveled again to Brazil to witness his sister’s Disney-themed twentieth birthday party.

This was Luiz Enrique’s first season in charge of Barcelona and Neymar had to seek his manager’s approval which he gave alongside the approval from the captain, Iniesta, and vice-captains- Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Javier Mascherano.

The 2015 season will be remembered very well by many Barcelona fans as it marked one of the best moments in the clubs’ history as they won the treble with Neymar scoring in the Champions League final.

It is obvious that he loves spending time with his family and this makes him very happy. It is however unknown if those early years were deliberate effort to miss games by being booked just to be present at his sister’s birthday party.
