Liverpool defense exposed again by Tottenham

It was another game that Liverpool’s main problem all season has come to fore. The Reds have not been able to solve their defensive problem all season. In the match against Tottenham, a game that was expected to be highly competitive and be level, it ended up being a one-sided affair.

Spurs took the lead early in the game through Harry Kane before Son double the lead. All this in the first 12 minutes. It was a totally schoolboy error from Dejan Loveren that resulted in those two goals which is a reason why many advocated the club get at least a new defender.

Despite the fact that Mo Salah helped reduced the deficit, Liverpool still could not cope with the attacking power Spurs came with at Wembley on the day. Dele Alli added the third before Kane completed his brace. The game ended 4-1 in favour of Spurs.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp was left in awe as to how his team crumbled like that. This helped Spurs record their first victory against Liverpool after ten meetings which ended in 6 defeat and three draws. This shows that Liverpool had an edge going into the game but all that did not come to play on the day.

Going forward, it is a known fact that Liverpool has to get a recognized defender at the heart of their defence. This is one of their quick fix to their long time problem. That however won’t happen till January when the transfer window will open again.

Jurgen Klopp has to device a means to make his team concede less regardless of the defenders they have at the moment. A team doesn’t have it all and as a top coach, you should be able to device a means to balance things
up with your team. If Liverpool continues in this form of losing in big games, they will most likely not be in contention for the top four not to mention the league.
